Lady Panthers Place Second at Home Invite

Seven high school swim teams descended on Powell on Saturday, September 8th to compete in the Gene Dozah Invitational at the Powell Aquatic Center. The Lady Panthers finished second – ten points behind Lander – and added two swimmers – Madison Lowery and Katrina Twitchell – to the list of state-qualified swimmers.

Lowery, a sophomore, qualified for state in the 50 freestyle with her sixth-place finish in 27.46.

Twitchell, a senior, qualified in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. In the 50 free she placed seventh in 27.88 and in the 100 free finished fifth with a time of 1:02.24.

Elizabeth Liggett improved upon her previous state qualifying times in both the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. In the 200 IM, Liggett took five seconds of her previously qualified time in her sixth-place finish in 2:37.29 and improved upon her time in the 500 by six seconds with her sixth-place time in 6:21.31.

Junior Anna Fuller qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke posting a time of 1:19.35 which was good for fifth place. Fuller also improved upon her previous 200 IM time by two seconds in her eighth-place finish in 2:40.91.

Senior Caitlyn Miner improved upon her time in the 200 IM and added the 50 freestyle to her state qualified list of events. In the 200 IM Miner took seven seconds off her previous state qualifying time with her second place finish in 2:20.65 and placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 56.06 which is her eighth state qualified event.

Sophomore Addison Moretti qualified for state in the 500 freestyle in her third place finish in 6:08.47 and took two seconds off her previous qualified time in the 200 freestyle with her second place finish in 2:15.03.

Junior Ashlyn Aguirre qualified for state in the 100 backstroke posting a seventh-place time in 1:12.48. In the 100 butterfly, Aguirre improved upon her state qualified time for the third time this season for a total of four seconds improvement with her third-place finish in 1:12.98.

Panther Cub Cross Country Team Run Away with Title in Lander

The Powell Middle School cross country team competed at the Lander Invite on Thursday, September 13th. The Panther Cubs ran away with the title with 68 points – 21 points ahead of the second place Lander team. The first place title is the second of the season for the team out of the three races competed in thus far in the season. A total of 13 teams competed on the boy’s side of the competition.

Powell’s Chance Franks placed eighth out of the 221 runners who competed.

The Lady Panther Cubs placed 10th.
